Whitney Elizabeth Houston is the youngest of four children born in Newark New Jersey on August 9 in 1963. Their parents include gospel vocalists Cissy Houston, aka Emily Lee Drinkard - and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne Warwick was also famous for her singing. As a young girl, Houston started singing professionally in the New Hope Baptist Church of Newark with her mom on Chaka K's Im Every Woman in 1978. She then went on to perform backing vocals for Jermaine, Lou Rawls, as well as her mom.
